2008 MINISTRY DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTIONS

CITF JOB DESCRIPTION:

MINISTRY DIRECTOR – SERVING BELIEVERS (SERVICE, MINISTRY)

Biblical mandate:

Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good - 1 Corinthians 12:7

So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ – Ephesians 4:11-13

God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another – 1 Peter 4:10

Don’t act thoughtlessly, but try to find out and do whatever the Lord wants you to – Ephesians 5:17

Whoever wants to be great must become a servant – Mark 10:43

You can tell what they are by what they do – Matthew 7:16

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing,  taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death— even death on a cross! – Philippians 2:5-8

Real servants don’t try to use God for their purposes. They let God use them for his purposes.

I will not use people to build my church instead I will use the church to build people

Good will leads to the good news

Purpose:

  • God wants each of his believers to have a ministry in the Body of Christ through serving other believers and a mission in the world by serving unbelievers.
    • Serving the church - CITF can not reach an ever increasing number of people for Christ if we do not have the people resources (and subsequent structures and processes) to support the functions of a healthy, well resourced and functioning church. We need people serving in ministry if we are to build a dynamic church and if we make a significant impact in Macquarie Fields.
    • Serving our community - CITF will become an irrelevant & inward-focussed social club, disconnected from our community if we do not look for ways to be culturally and practically relevant to our community. God is calling his believers to be salt and light to the world, a city on a hill. One of the best ways to do this in our context is to be people of service, loving people into the kingdom with acts of Jesus kindness and service. Good will leads to the good news.
  • Therefore Spiritual Gifts are essential to fulfilling both of the above functions.

Objectives:

  • To grow God’s church at CITF through the ministry of believers serving in ministry both in God’s house and in his wider community.
  • To educate, support and provide opportunities for our believers to serve in and out of CITF.
  • To champion spiritual gifts for CITF members.
  • To develop a biblical and healthy culture of service at CITF.
  • To hold the church accountable to focus on growing God’s kingdom when the church is tempted to become self-seeking and serving (especially when a service project may not appear to have any benefit to CITF/MAC).

Operational tasks:

This ministry will work with other relevant ministries to build symbiosis and organisational effectiveness, but at this stage in our journey, this role will primarily champion the following:

  • Build a ministry team.
  • Create, own & facilitate ministry systems for members to become ministry minded and be servant-hearted.
  • Work with Pastoral team, Elders & Ministry Leaders to human resource the various ministries in the church.
  • Look after Spiritual Gifts (SG) process to ensure current members are educated and taken through a SG assessment and serving within their suited area. Then streamline this process so that new believers can be integrated in church life including serving in the church. (This will need to be in consultation with discipleship, community and other ministries).
  • Oversee volunteers for the church and working with youth leader in particular to look for opportunities for young people to serve in church.
  • Research and identify needs-based ministry opportunities inside the church, school and outside the church.
  • Work with Pastoral team & Elders to identify and select key service opportunities/events for the church to hold during the year.
  • Safeguard the church from unhealthy ministry including burnout and the church and individual believers being in unsafe environments or being taken advantage of.
  • Review our current “ministry” opportunities and placement processes to make recommendations for either improvement or cessation.
  • Look for synergistic government & private funding opportunities to help resource our ministry efforts where ethical and appropriate.
  • Work closely with all ministry leaders to ensure ministry is missional & effective.
  • Be aware of local community services & offerings available. This includes subscribing to email list and be aware of events the Macquarie Fields Inter-agency Group are holding. And if possible attend the once-a-month community meetings on Thursday mornings to represent CITF. (This can be done in tandem with evangelism leader).
  • To develop and promote a theology of CITF Adventist Christian ministry.
  • Attend all Ministry Director meetings and chair meetings for this particular ministry.

CITF JOB DESCRIPTION:

MINISTRY DIRECTOR – SHARING BELIEVERS (EVANGELISM, OUTREACH)

Biblical mandate:

Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." – Matthew 28:18-20

But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. – Acts 20:24

Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible.  To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God's law but am under Christ's law), so as to win those not having the law. To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings. Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize – 1 Corinthians 9:19:

Jesus not only calls us to come to him but to go for him.

Purpose:

  • The task of evangelism is so important, Christ actually gave us five Great commissions, one in each of the gospels, and one in the book of Acts.  In Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 16:15, Luke 24:47-49, John 20:21 and Acts 1:8 Jesus commissions us to go and tell the world the message of salvation.
  • Evangelism is more than our responsibility; it is our great privilege.  We are invited to be a part of bringing people into God’s eternal family.  I don’t know of a more significant cause to give one’s life to.  If you know the cure for cancer, I’m sure you’d do everything you could to get the news out.  It would save millions of lives.  But you already know something better:  You’ve been given the Gospel of eternal life to share, which is the greatest news of all!
  • As long as there is one person in the world who does not know Christ, the church has a mandate to keep growing.  Growth is not optional; it is commanded by Jesus.  We should not seek church growth for our own benefit, but because God wants people saved. To bring people into a growing, personal relationship with Jesus.  To resource the church for evangelism and ensure each member is equipped and resourced for their part in the evangelism process.

Objectives:

  • To grow God’s church at CITF through the ministry of believers living & breathing Evangelism.
  • To educate, support and provide opportunities for our believers to become a missional church body and evangelistic individuals.
  • To develop a biblical and healthy culture of evangelism at CITF.

Operational tasks:

This ministry will work with other relevant ministries to build symbiosis and organisational effectives, but at this stage in our journey, this role will primarily champion the following:

  • Build a ministry team.
  • Create, own & facilitate evangelism systems for members to become evanglistic.
  • Work with Pastoral & Elders to identify and target different demographic groups and subsets.
  • Research and identify needs-based evangelism opportunities from public evangelism to friendship evangelism and everything in between.
  • Work with Pastoral team, Elders & school council to identify and select key evangelistic opportunities/events during the year. Then they will be expected to resource teams around these major projects.
  • Provide education and develop resources to support our church and believers to become more evangelistic and missional.
  • Review our current “evangelism” programmes such as REVO, Godspace, seeker-targeted worship services & special events (State of Origin, Fete Café, visiting music ministries etc) to make recommendations for either improvement or cessation.
  • In consultation with MAC, look for evangelistic synergy and opportunities during the school-led events.
  • Work closely with all ministry leaders to ensure missional and evangelistic elements exist in their various ministries.
  • Work closely with discipleship leader regarding evangelism related training/seminar afternoons at the church.
  • Form focus groups with school and community to ensure evangelistic efforts are needs-based and that CITF is committed to continuous improvement.
  • Subscribe to email list and be aware of events the Macquarie Fields Inter-agency Group are holding. And if possible attend the once-a-month community meetings on Thursday mornings to represent CITF.  (This can be done in tandem with ministry/service leader).
  • To develop and promote a theology of CITF Adventist Christian evangelism and missional thinking.
  • Attend all Ministry Director meetings and chair meetings for this particular ministry.

The ideal leader will need to:

·        Be prayerful in all their decisions and interactions. They will be Holy Spirit-led in their ministry leadership.

·        Familiarise themselves with literature on the Missional Church, and other evangelism best practises & research from other churches.

·        A person who understands public & personal evangelism and what is appropriate for CITF at different times and in different situations.

·        Have their finger on the pulse and to be able to make recommendations of untapped target audiences and evangelistic needs.

·
